Shailkupa thana police in Jhenaidah have arrested six persons including three women members of a thieves’ gang. One of the women is a member of local union parishad. They were nabbed Shekherpara Bakharba village of Sarutia union in the early hours of Thursday.
The arrestees were Anik Roy, son of Jiten Roy, Ripon Seikh, son of Liton Seikh, Saudi expat Liton Seikh’s wife, also a member of local union parishad Afroza Khanam, Mim Khatun and Tipu Sultana’s wife Rupali Khatun. They are the inhabitants of the locality, while Anik Roy hails from Salikha upazila in Magura. He was staying in the house of Iqbal Hossain of Bakharba village for last four years.
But the police men still in dilemma and could not nab the Godfathers of the gang, although they are hopeful to detect the mastermind. Shailkupa police station officer in charge Bazlur Rahman said a gang of organized thieves had entered into Bhai Bahi telecom at Kabirpur area of Shailupa ian the night of January 8 an decamped with about 40 cellular phone sets and cash for an amount of taka over three lakh.
The shop owner detected the thieves watching the close circuit camera and filed a case with local police station on the next day. Sub inspector Amit Saha after a long process had detcected the thieves and managed to nab them. The police also seized 12 stolen smart phone sets from the arrested. Police said they arrested men were drug addicts and both men and women were involved in drug trading. Many incidents of theft, snatching and other activities were running by the gang in the locality and surrounding areas for a long. The police were continuing drives to nab the godfathers at any cost, officer in charge said.
