6 injured in fox attack in Thakurgaon

At least six people have been injured in a fox attack at Haripur upazila in Thakurgaon.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Medni Sagar Luhakachi village of Gedura union in Haripur upazila.

Gedura union chairman Md. Tariqul Islam confirmed the matter around 8 pm.

The injured are - Md. Abu Raihan (22), nephew of Md. Robu Hossain of the same village, his wife Nasrin Begum (21), son Md. Redoan (1), daughter of Ashadul Haque Adiba (3), son of Bachchu Mia Al-Amin (21) and another person.

The council chairman Tariqul Islam said that the fox attack has increased in the area recently. Due to this, people are in fear of foxes especially when walking on the road after evening. On Thursday afternoon, two foxes suddenly attacked the people in their house.

He further said that the foxes might attack the people when they came in search of food or they might have gone mad. A few days ago, it was announced from the mike that the people should move carefully in the after evening.

After the fox attack, the people of the village beat 5 foxes to death by evening.

Locals alleged that due to the lack of any steps to protect wildlife, they are sometimes subjected to such sudden attacks. Some believe that the foxes were infected with rabies.

In this regard, Haripur Upazila Health Resident Medical Officer Md. Asaduzzaman said that the injured people did not come to the health complex.

He requested the Forest Department and the local administration to take measures to prevent fox attacks for the safety of the locals.
