6 get life for killing Harinakundu youth

The court of additional district and sessions judges in Jhenaidah on Monday had awarded life imprisonment to six persons for their involvement in noosing and chopping to death of a young man. They were also fined for Taka five thousand to each of the convict. 

The convicts six were Saiful Islam Pavel, son of Sanaullah Mia of village Dakkhin Manaharpur in Shailkupa upazila, Alo, son of Abdul Aziz of Khajura Sheikhpara of Jhenaidah municipality, Aslam, son of Joybnal Abedin, Imran, son of Abdul Majid, Saddam Hossain, son of Habibur Rahman and Rasel, son of Jamal Mollah of Pobahati in Jhenaidah municipality.

The court had released three others when they were not proved guilty in the murder case, while another was relived from the charge due to his death before delivering the verdict. The verdict was delivered by the judges of the first court Mohammad Bahauddin Ahmed after a long proceeding for last 13 years in the murder case taken place on April 6 of 2010, said the court sources. 

Government pleader for the state in the case Abdul Khaleq said, young man Rahmatullah alias Rafique of village Berbinni in Harinakundu upazila was invited by someone over his cellphone of April 16 of 2010. His body was recovered from Khajura area in the municipal area next morning.  He was allegedly noosed and chopped to death. Abdur Razzaque, a paternal uncle of the deceased had filed a case against some unknown persons with Jhenaidah Sadar police station on the same day. 

The investigation officer (IO) of the murder case of Jhenaidah Sadar police station had submitted charge sheet against 10 persons. The court after a thorough proceedings had awarded life imprisonment to Saiful Islam Pavel, Alo, Aslam, Imran, Saddam Hossain and Rasel and fined taka five thousand each. Of them three convicts Pavel, Alo and Rasel was absconding during the delivery of the verdict. 

Three others accused Masum, Rihad and Zaman were relieved from the charge when they were not found guilty in the murder case. The court also relieved accused Feroz when he had died before delivering the verdict, the lawyer for the state said.
