6 Covid-19 sample collection booths set up in Ctg

CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin has advised the city dwellers not to go to the corona sample collection bo.oth if there are no symptoms of corona virus in their bodies. He made the remarks while inaugurating a sample collection booth set up by Chittagong City Corporation at Chittagong Press Club on Thursday afternoon.

Mayor said, 'Medical centres are being expanded as the prevalence of corona is increasing day by day.  Besides government hospitals, private medical institutions are also being acquired.  It has recently been decided to acquire a private clinic. Initiatives were taken to set up sample collection booths for the convenience of the people of Chittagong.  So that patients with corona symptoms can easily go to the booth and submit samples.

He added, Patients who come to submit samples with symptoms have to suffer in various ways.  Risk of infection is also increasing among the healthy people who come to the booth.  Aware citizens should keep this in mind.

The mayor later inaugurated a sample collection booth at the Hashem Nazir Health Center in Colonel Hat of North Katlli.

CCC officials said, Six booths will be inaugurated at Chittagong Press Club, Bibir Hat, Jalalabad Ward No. 2, North Kattli, Agrabad and Chandgaon areas in first phase.  Only Chittagong Press Club and North Kattli booths will start collecting samples from Thursday.  Samples can be collected at 6 more booths to be inaugurated by next Sunday.

According to CCC sources, 30 samples will be collected daily at each booth.  Samples of these 6 booths will be sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Fauzdarhat Chest Disease Hospital, Chittagong University Corona Testing Lab.  

The booths are being funded by DFID, a UK-based donor organization. The booth will be set up by a charity and BRAC will train booth directors.

CCC will also pay all the costs of operating the booths. These booths will be under the overall management of Chittagong City Corporation.  Delivery from sample collection to test centre;  CCC will do ancillary work including booth disinfecting.

BRAC assistant director said 6 trained teams will work in 6 booths.  Each team will have 1 lab technician and 1 lab assistant.  Besides, manpower will be increased in each team as per requirement.
