549 sacks of govt rice seized in Jashore

A total of five hundred fourty nine sacks of government rice were seized from a warehouse (godown) in a rice mills at Monirampur upazila in Jashore on Saturday afternoon.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Monirampur Ahsan Ullah Sharifi seized the sacks of government rice and a truck from Vai Vai rice Mills at Bijayarampur in Monirampur municipality area. Police also arrested the owner of the mills Abdullah Al Mamun, 30.

Chairman of Monirampur Upazila Parishad Nazma Khanam said that the UNO along with policemen searched in the Mamun’s Mills at Bijayarampur area to recover sacks of government rice. 

Local businessmen, food officers and some public representatives are involved with the sale of the government rice. The investigation will expose everyone's face who are involed in this regard, she added. 

Abdullah Al Mamun said that three Rice Mill owners had bought 37 metric tonnes of rice and made it to food warehouse at a price of tk 30. He was carrying 16 metric tonnes (549 sacks) of rice to godown. 

Monirampur OC (investigation) Shikdar Motiar Rahman said, "We have taken Abdullah into custody of the owner of the rice mill with a truck and 549 sacks of government rice. A case was filed with the thana in this connection. 

Monirampur UNO Ahsan Ullah Sharifi said, government rice was unloaded from a rice mill’s truck in Bijayarampur area.On secret information we raided in the mill and recovered the 549 sacks of government rice.
