52 more test positive for Covid-19 in Rajshahi

Fifty-two more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in seven districts of Rajshahi division on Thursday, taking the caseload to 99,989 since the pandemic began in March last year.

   However, the new positive cases are showing a significant rising trend compared to the previous day's figure of 27, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

   Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 96,325 in the division after 17 patients were discharged from the hospitals on the same day.

   The death toll reached 1,692, including 687 in Bogura, 327 in Rajshahi with 209 in its city and 175 in Natore as no new fatality was reported during the past 24 hours, Dr Talukder added.

  Besides, all the positive cases of Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 23,220 were kept in isolation units of different dedicated hospitals for institutional quarantine. Of them, 19,988 have been released.

  Meanwhile, 31 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while nine others were released from isolation during the same time.

  Of the 52 new cases, 21 were detected each in Rajshahi city, followed by 11 in Pabna, five each in Natore and Bogura, four each in Naogaon and Sirajganj and two in Joypurhat districts.

   With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 28,442 in Rajshahi including 22,997 in its city, 5,687 in Chapainawabganj, 6,472 in Naogaon, 8,465 in Natore, 4,761 in Joypurhat, 21,839 in Bogura, 11,446 in Sirajganj and 12,877 in Pabna.

   A total of 1,15,381 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent community transmission of the deadly coronavirus.

  Of them, 1, 14,281 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
