500 poor eye patients getting free treatments in Kawnia

Some 500 poor eye patients are receiving cost free cataract operation with implantation of artificial lens at a week-long free eye camp being held from Friday (January 24) at Kawnia Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur, reports BSS.  Bangladesh unit of UK-based voluntary organisation Al-Basheer International Foundation under management of Al-Noor Eye Hospital are providing free treatments to eye ailments and conducting cataract surgeries and implanting artificial lenses in the camp.

Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Md. Asib Ahsan inaugurated the week-long free eye camp in a function held on Kawnia Upazila Health Complex Premises on Friday as the chief guest.

With Kawnia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ulfat Ara Begum in the chair, Superintendent of Police Biplob Kumar Saker, Civil Surgeon Dr. Hirombo Kumar Roy, Kawnia Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mir Hossain and Principal of Kawnia Degree College Musa Ahmmed attended the function as special guests.

Director General of Bangladesh Region of Al-Basheer International Foundation Dr. Ahmed Taher Hamid Ali its Medical Director Dr. Md. Abu Sayeed and Human Resources manager Nuruzzaman Khoshnabeesh were present.

The eye specialists and surgeons of the voluntary organisation are selecting eye patients who require cataract surgeries and implantation of artificial lenses and providing cost free treatments to other eye patients who do not need surgery or lens implantation.

The expert eye specialists and surgeons are providing medicines, spectacles and advice free of costs after providing treatments to normal eye patients without cataract problems as per requirements. “The selected patients are being kept at Kawnia Upazila Health Complex and given foods and residential facilities. 

Their cataract surgeries and implantation of artificial lenses will be conducted in the next six days at there free of costs,” the Civil Surgeon said. The chief guest lauded the noble initiative of Al-Basheer International Foundation and Al-Noor Eye Hospital to provide quality treatments to eye patients and conduct cataract surgeries and implantation of artificial lenses in the camp.
