50 work of cantonment underpass completed

Such technology was never used in Bangladesh, claims army officials

Fifty percent construction works of the much talked about underpass being constructed in front of the Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College in the capital, has already been completed, says an ISPR official. Colonel S M Anwar Hussain, Additional Director General of the 24 Engineering Construction Brigade briefed media at a program at the construction site on Sunday.

Commanding Officer of the 24 Engineering Construction Brigade Lt Col Md Sadeque Mahmood and ISPR Director Lt Col Abdullah Ibn Zaid, among others were also present at the program. Earlier on August 12 last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the underpass following the demand of the students, who took to the streets when a speedy bus ran over two students.

The construction works were started on September 26 last year. The construction is still going on. Army officials said fifty percent of the construction works have been already completed. They said it is totally a new project. The technology was not used in any project of the country before. If the underpass is constructed, defense and civil persons will be able to cross the road safely
