A Chattogram court has sentenced five people, including three brothers, to death in the murder case of Abdu Shukkur, which took place nearly 14 years ago in Anwara upazila.
The verdict was delivered on Monday by Judge Rozina Khan of Chattogram Additional Fourth District and Sessions Judge’s Court.
The convicts are three brothers Ahmad Mia, 49, Md. Iliyas, 54, Nurul Absar, 36—from Pashchim Singra area in Anwara—as well as Md. Rafique, 46 and Md. Solaiman, both from the same locality.
Bench assistant Hafez Ahmed said that the court found the five accused guilty based on testimonies from 10 witnesses. Each of the convicts has also been fined Tk 50,000.
At the time of the verdict, convicts Iliyas and Nurul Absar were present in court and were sent to jail following the sentencing. Arrest warrants have been issued against the remaining three—Ahmad Mia, Rafique, and Solaiman—as they are on the run.
However, three others have been acquitted in the case. Those acquitted are Abdul Kuddus, Md. Anwar, and Md. Enam, as the charges against them could not be proven.
