5 accused remanded in Ripon murder case

The judge of judicial magistrate court no 4 in Jhenaidah had granted one-day remand for five accused in the murder of Shailkupa Awami League leader, also a union parishad leader Habibur Rahman Ripon in Shailkupa. 

The remand was granted by judge Wazedur Rahman on Monday. Earlier the police had prayed to grant seven days’ remand for the accused. The accused are Jumarat Ali, Ashraful, Nayeb Ali, Mithu Biswas, and Mukter Hossain. 

Earlier, the High Court ordered them to appear in the lower court on December 4. But they had submitted a fake bail order to Shailkupa thana instead of appearing in the lower court. The matter was detected by the court immediately after the incident. Since then the police were hunting six of the accused. Tweny-seven accused in the murder case had earlier granted bail by Jhenaidah District and Session Judge’s court on December 4 last. When the three were arrested, another three managed to flee sensing police drives. Mention may be made here that Abailpur Union Awami league legal assistance affairs secretary also member of local union parishad (UP), Habibur Rahman Ripon, was beaten and chopped to death by the supporters of local UP chairman Helal Uddin Biswas and his men at about 10 pm of October 16 while he (victim) along with his party men was returning home on motorbike. 

The miscreants stopped them at Mingram turning point on Abaipur-Sripur road. He was taken to Jhenaidah 250-bed General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Two another AL men sustained severe injuries and were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. 

Ahsanul Kabir, a younger brother of the deceased had filed a murder case accusing 32 persons. Later, 27 of the accused were granted bail from the High Court.Five accused were placed on one-day remand.
