A total of 5,920 farmers from 17 unions of Jhenaidah district, including the Jhenaidah municipality, will receive fertilizers and seeds as agricultural incentives for the current Rabi season.
The incentives will be provided to cultivate onion, wheat, maize, mustard, sunflower, betelnut, lentil and khesari.
The agricultural incentives distribution programme was inaugurated by Sasti Chandra Roy, Deputy Director (DD) of Jhenaidah Department of agricultural extension (DAE) held at Jhenaidah sadar upazila parishad premises on Monday morning.
Jhenaidh Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Razia Akter Chowdhury, Jhenaidah Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO) Nur-e-Nabi, Agriculture Extension Officer Mir Rakibul Islam were also attended the programme.
The speakers said the government has been providing agricultural assistance to boost production in agriculture sector aiming to produce safe and environment-friendly crops. Regarding the mustard farming by the farmers, the speakers said that additional mustard farming will help to produce pure edible oil for the farmers’ family to consume, which will ensure better health for their family members.
It will also provide edible oil for the people of the country, which will be beneficial for their health too. Moreover, it will play a role in reducing the import of edible oil and oil seeds, which costs the country a significant amount of foreign currency every year. They urged the farmers to cultivate more oilseeds for the benefit of the people of the country people.
Sources from Jhenaidah Department of Agricultural Extension said they are distributing 25.07 tonnes of improved variety seeds, including onion, wheat, maize, mustard, sunflower, betelnut, lentil, and khesari, along with 120.5 tonnes of chemical fertilizer to farmers during the Rabi season as part of the incentives.
