The 4th ‘Bharat-Bangladesh Film Festival’ will take place in Kolkata on 26 and 27 October. This two-day event celebrates films from Bangladesh and India, honoring the memory of the famous cine journalist Fazlul Haque.
Organized by the Fazlul Haque Mani Smriti Sansad and the Bidhannagar Film Society of West Bengal, the festival will be held at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in Bidhannagar.
The popular Indian film director Goutam Ghose will inaugurate the festival.
On the first day, the program will begin at 4:00 PM with songs and poetry. At 4:30 PM, the Fazlul Haque Moni Smriti Lecture will take place, featuring speakers Shamik Bandyopadhyay and Sanjay Mukhopadhyay. The opening day will showcase two films: the India-Bangladesh joint venture film “Shankhachil,” directed by Goutam Ghose, and “Akaler Sandhane,” a film by the renowned director Mrinal Sen.
The second day of the festival will also start with songs and poetry at 4:00 PM. Following this, Goutam Ghose will give another lecture, with children’s writer Amirul Islam presiding over the program. The evening will feature screenings of “Ganashatra” and “Hirak Rajar Deshe,” directed by the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, along with “Atanka,” directed by Tapan Sinha.
This festival aims to strengthen the cultural ties between India and Bangladesh, showcasing the rich heritage of both countries through their films. Everyone is invited to join this celebration of cinema and creativity.
