Forty-eight Bangladeshi citizens returned home from Thailand where they were stranded due to Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok facilitated the repatriation as part of the government's commitment “to extend all possible assistance and support for repatriation of stranded citizens abroad”.

Wednesday’s return by a special Biman Bangladesh flight was the eighth such batch. The embassy in a statement said 41 Thai and other foreign nationals also availed this flight to join work in Bangladesh.

The Biman Bangladesh flight with a total 89 passengers arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4am.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged this special flight on self-payment basis to repatriate stranded Bangladesh nationals in Thailand.

Shahnaz Gazi, Charge d' Affaires of the Embassy thanked the Thai government for extending their cooperation in facilitating the flight.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok, earlier, arranged the flights from Cambodia to return 135 stranded Bangladeshis.
