A joint operation was conducted in different areas of Chattogram and Feni against illegal stockpiling of edible oil and fuel, unhygienic food production, and illegal occupation of government land and sidewalks.

The drive was carried out on Sunday under the initiative of RAB’s Chattogram unit, in coordination with Executive and Judicial Magistrates, the Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Police, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and BSTI.

During the operation, a total of 48,500 liters of furnace oil was seized. In addition, 12 acres of government land were recovered and 9 sidewalk shops were evicted. A total fine of 466,000 taka was imposed for various irregularities.

According to RAB, intelligence sources revealed that some dishonest traders were illegally stockpiling edible oil, octane, diesel, and furnace oil to create artificial shortages. At the same time, food was being produced in unhygienic conditions, and illegal occupation of government land and sidewalks was causing obstruction to public movement.

Based on this information, fines amounting to 127,000 taka were imposed for offenses such as expired licenses, storing oil in unhealthy conditions, selling fuel at inflated prices, and using unstamped weighing and measuring devices. Additionally, another 285,000 taka was fined for producing and storing goods without valid expiry dates, maintaining unhygienic conditions, and using fake seals.

RAB Chattogram’s Assistant Director A.R.M. Mozzaffar Hossain said that an additional 54,000 taka fine was imposed for illegal occupation of government land and sidewalks. The operation also resulted in the recovery of 12 acres of government land and the eviction of 9 shops.

He said, 48,500 liters of furnace oil were seized from an establishment for illegally importing, transporting, storing, and processing unrefined furnace oil without a valid license.
