Islamic University (IU) celebrated its 47th University Day with a series of vibrant programs, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence, research, and Islamic values. The day-long celebration featured flag hoisting, discussion sessions, colorful rallies, prayers, cultural programs, and campus decoration.
Professor Dr. Nakeeb Mohammad Nasrullah, Vice-Chancellor of IU, highlighted the importance of blending modern education with Islamic values, stating that “science does not need to be Islamized because science itself is part of Islam.” He emphasized motivating students in all departments with the fundamentals of Islam while simultaneously developing a modern academic environment. “If everyone works together, Islamic University will advance toward fulfilling its goals and objectives,” he added. He also stressed the centrality of teaching and research, noting that despite limited government funding, IU is actively seeking additional resources to enhance its research initiatives.
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion session held in the Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor extended greetings on the 47th University Day and paid tribute to IU’s founder, the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, as well as all individuals who campaigned for the university’s establishment between 1929 and 1979. He prayed for the souls of those who sacrificed their lives and wished good health for those still living with injuries or disabilities. He also acknowledged the contributions of past Vice-Chancellors, describing their collective efforts as essential drops forming the ocean of the university’s progress.
The discussion session included speeches by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Ayakub Ali, Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, and Registrar (acting) Professor Dr. Md. Monzurul Haque. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Aleenur Rahman, Convener of the 47th University Day Committee, and moderated by faculty members including Professors Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, and Assistant Professor Md. Habibur Rahman. Leaders from student and staff organizations, including IU Zia Parishad, Green Forum, UTAB, Sada Party, and various student unions, also addressed the gathering.
The celebrations formally began at 11 a.m. at the central playground with the hoisting of the national and university flags by the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, followed by the symbolic release of doves and balloons. A cake-cutting ceremony was held before a colorful rally featuring students, faculty, staff, and members of the Laboratory School and College. The rally, accompanied by banners and musical performances, traversed the main campus roads and concluded at the foundation stone laid by the martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
At the foundation stone, the Vice-Chancellor and representatives of various university bodies laid floral wreaths and offered prayers for IU’s peace and prosperity. Later, special prayers and supplications were held at the central mosque, followed by a screening of an Iranian film in the Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium.
The campus was adorned for the occasion, with the main gate, administration building, VC’s bungalow, foundation stone, and Diana Square decorated with lights, while main roads were embellished with alpana designs and colorful flags, completing the vibrant and memorable celebration of IU’s 47th University Day.
