A total of 456 poor and vulnerable women, including widows and those abandoned by their husbands, have been provided with free Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) cards in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur.
The distribution event took place on Thursday afternoon at the Pogaldigha Union Parishad premises, organised by the Upazila Women Affairs Office.
Present at the event were Pogaldigha Union Panel Chairman Lal Mia Sarkar, Union Parishad Secretary Rafiqul Islam, Accounts Assistant Golam Sarwar Rajon, UP members Mobarak Ali, Afzal Hossain, Asmaul Husna Shahnaz, and Nuri Begum. Representing the Upazila Women Affairs Office was Mahmuda Khatun, and Badiul Islam, the entrepreneur of the Union Digital Centre, was also in attendance.
VGD cards were distributed among women from all nine wards of Pogaldigha Union, covering various villages in the area. The beneficiaries are expected to receive regular food assistance under this programme, which aims to improve the socio-economic condition of underprivileged women.
Officials stated that the initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support disadvantaged women and help them become self-reliant through food security and skills development.
