451 flood victims get cash, vegetable seeds in Gaibandha

Some 451 flood victims of Belka, Chandipur and Horipur unions of Sundarganj Upazila got cash money of Tk20,29,500 from Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and Swiss Red Cross (SRC) on Tuesday, reports BSS.

The cash money and vegetable seeds were disbursed to the flood victims of the char unions of the upazila at the arrangement of BDRCS, district unit with the financial support of SRC.

The objective of the money distribution was to help them buy essential materials so that they could pass their days without hardship during the critical time, said an official.

A simple function was also held on the premises of Illias kha Dakhil Madrasha under Chandipur union of the upazila on Tuesday.

Chairman of BDRCS, Gaibandha unit and also chairman of Gaibandha Zila Parishad Ataur Rahman Sarker and Unit Secretary Rezaul Karim Reza formally disbursed the money to the beneficiaries.

Ataur Rahman Sarker said the BDRCS and the SRC had beside the flood victims of the district in past and the organizations would stand beside them in future to mitigate their sufferings caused by natural disaster.

Manager of DRM-SRC Tuhin Samaddar urged the beneficiaries to utilize the grant money for their post flood rehabilitation works.

Each of them received Tk4500 and a packet of seed of eight types of vegetable like okra, bitter gourd, bottle gourd, cucumber, and pumpkin as grant from the organizations under the cash and seed distribution programme to flood affected people-2019.

Unit Members ATM Rezunnabi Razu, and Sultana Islam Doly, chairperson of the Madrasha M. Jahirul Islam and superintendent M. Shafiul Islam were also present on the occasion.

Project manager Golam Mostafa, resilience coordinator Amal Kumar Pramanik, unit level officer Pavel Rahman, finance and admin officer M. Khurshid Alam, project officer Saiful Islam and project engineer Monimul Islam coordinated the activity.

Talking to BSS, project manager Golam Mostafa said more 49 selected people of the unions would get cash money and vegetable seed from the organisations very soon.
