Published : 21 Nov 2022 09:13 PM

The Islamic University (IU), first founded after the liberation war of Bangladesh, will celebrate its 43rd founding anniversary on the campus in Kushtia in a befitting manner.

The university administration chalked out different programmes to mark the day.

Marking the day, IU vice-chancellor Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam will hoist the national flag while pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Mahbubur Rahman will hoist the university flag in the morning.

Later, the university vice-chancellor will inaugurate the events by releasing pigeons in the sky around 10:30am.

A joyous procession will also be brought out led by the VC from in front of the university’s administration building.

The procession will end at the Bangla Mancha adjacent to the university’s Arts’ Building after parading main streets of the campus.  After that a cake cutting-ceremony, a discussion and cultural programmes will also be held there.

Besides, the university has a wide range of successful history since its establishment. Situated 24 kilometers south of Kushtia and 22 kilometers north of Jhenaidah district-town in a lush green countryside, the university is by-passed by Khulna-Kushtia National Highway which provides its lifeline of connectivity with the rest of the country.

The passing of the Islamic University Act in 1980 conferred this institution the permanent prestige of being the first university established after the independence of Bangladesh, reflecting the hopes and aspirations of the new nation striving to be on par with other international players through the promotion of science, business, humanities, and interfaith dialogue.

By now, Islamic university has been exceptionally renowned as the major international center for theological, general, applied science, technology and engineering studies. The university addresses the needs of both the local and foreign students, facilitating them with a broad spectrum of undergraduate studies and postgraduate research and teaching.

The university began its journey with four departments whereas the university has a total of 36 departments now.

The university also awarded Master of Philosophy degree to 758 students and Doctor of Philosophy degree to 599 students. A total of twenty overseas students are now studying at different departments of the university.

The university was established with the aim of a hundred per cent residential university one but the university administration failed to meet the target since its

establishment.
