42,300 Boro farmers in Jhenaidah get incentives

A total of 42,300 farmers in six upazilas of Jhenaidah received incentives for Boro farming in the season. Of them, 16,000 farmers received stimulus for hybrid variety farming, 26,000 for high yielding varieties (HYV) and remaining 300 farmers received incentive for Boro synchronize variety. 

The government incentives will help reduce their farming cost and help strengthen their socio-economic condition, said the farmers and the officials of the department of agricultural extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah Khamarbari.

When contacted farmer Habibur Rahman of Khulna Bazar area in Shailkua municipality in Jhenaidah said he has been cultivating Boro hybrid and HYV on his three bighas of and. 

The DAE authorities have provided him with adequate quantity of seeds, DAP and MoP fertilizers to reduce the production cost and make the farming profitable for the farmers like him.  

The sources said they have distributed 32 tonnes of hybrid Boro seeds among 16,000 farmers, 130 tonnes of HYV Boro seeds, 260 tonnes of DAP and MoP seeds both among 26,000 farmers in Jhenaidah Sadar, Kaliganj, Kotchandpur, bordering Moheshpur, Shailkupa and Harinakundu. 

They also distributed point 600 kilograms of Boro synchronizes seeds, nine tonnes of urea, four tonnes of DAP and five tonnes of MoP among 300 farmers free of cost.

When contacted Deputy Director of the DAE in Jhenaidah Khamarbari Asgar Ali said the government have been distributing seeds, fertilizers and some other inputs among the farmers for free to reduce their production cost and increase the yield at farmers’ level with improved variety of seeds. The incentives will obviously help the root-level farmers to increase yield as well as expand the area of mustard farming.

DAE Deputy Director said they have been training up the farmers to use improved variety of seeds, balanced fertilizer giving emphasis to organic matters if available and apply modern technology to boost production. 

They have been also motivating the farmers to become smart applying the latest technology in the field towards a Smart Bangladesh at farmers’ level.
