418 Buddhist monasteries goes in 5-day lockdown

A total of 418 Buddhist monasteries in Bandarban district will remain lockdown from April 12 to April 16 to avoid public gathering on the occasion of Bengali New Year and Marma New Year Shangrai. Bandarban Zilla Parishad Chairman Kya Shoi Hla confirmed the information on Saturday morning.

Kya Shoi Hla said that during the lockdown, so that monks and their disciples staying in the monasteries could eat ‘Swaing’ special foods for monks, adequate necessary commodities have been deliverd to the monasteries already. 

He said the decision was made after meeting with senior Buddhist monks and religious leaders of Bandarban. He also informed that Bandarban Zila Parishad has allocated 200 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 2 lakh for distributing among the 17,500 poorly disposed families in seven upazilas of Bandarban.
