40pc power will come from renewable sources by 2041: Nasrul

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Sunday said around 40 percent power will come from renewable energy sources by 2041.

"According to the master plan, the ratio of renewable energy is gradually increases in the fuel mix, as 40 percent electricity will come from renewable energy by 2041. Renewable energy will the key fuel in future," he said this while inaugurating a 16MW rooftop solar power at Korean EPZ in Chittagong as the chief guest. 

The state minister said the rooftop solar power has become popular after introducing the net metering system, adding, "To install the rooftop solar power with professionalism it could be a good business model."

The state minister also said that research is needed to innovating technologies for solar power, as it requires a lot of land. 

   "Wind power, ocean renewable energy, electricity from waste, solar power etc. will make a huge contribution to the future fuel mix. Green energy will be the energy of developed and prosperous Bangladesh in 2041," he added.

   Nasrul, however, said at present 730.62MW power is being added to the national grid from different sources of renewable energy.

   Among others, Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Lee Jang-Keun and chairman of Korean EPZ Kihak Sung spoke in the ceremony.
