4 traders fined for making adulterated date jaggery

A mobile court fined four traders and realised Tk 24,500 for making adulterated date molasses in Horirampur upazila of Manikganj.

Horirampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Saiful Islam conducted the drive in the Balla Union on Tuesday.

The UNO conducted the operation on based on secret information that, some traders in different places of Balla Union were making date molasses by mixing sugar, stale molasses, straw water and lime with poisonous chemicals.

Lal Khan of Jhitka Sardar Para village of the upazila was fined Tk 10,000, Habibur Rahman Tk 5,000, Akejuddin Tk 5,000 and Rehena Begum of Balla village Tk 4,500 and a total of Tk 24,500 for making adulterated molasses.

During the operation, about 5 Mons of adulterated date molasses have been destroyed. The traders have given a bond that they will not prepare adulterated date molasses in future.

UNO Saiful Islam said, "We will continue our raid against the production of adulterated molasses to preserve the reputation of Hazari molasses and red molasses, which carry the tradition of Manikganj."

Sanitary Inspector of Harirampur Upazila Saiful Islam Nazrul Islam along with police personnel cooperated the operation.
