The incessant rainfall for the last five days and the onrush of water from upstream hilly regions of India, the water levels of four rivers of Moulvi Bazar district are on spate. The water in the river Juri is flowing 102 centimeters above the danger level. The flood is apprehended in the district if the rainfall continues. Incessant rainfall has been continuing in seven upazilas of the district from May 30 morning.

According to Water Development Board (WDB) in Moulvi Bazar, due to incessant rainfall and onrush of water from upper hill regions for the last five days, the water levels of the rivers Monu, Dholoi, Juri and Kuhsiara have been increased in Sherpur point.

WDB sources further informed at 3-00 PM Sunday, the water was flowing at 202 centimeters of the railway bridge of the river Monu, the water at Chandighat point of Monu was flowing  98 centimeters below the danger level, the Dholai at the railway bridge point was 250 below the danger level and the Kushiara at Sherpur point was flowing 127 below the danger level.

According to sources, during the rainy season last year, the riverside eroded at various points of the Monu and the Dhaolai rivers due to incessant heavy rainfall and the onrush of water from hilly regions resulting a flooding of huge areas inundating houses, roads, crop fields and the fisheries projects. Hundreds of flood-affected people were forced to take shelter in the flood shelters and the safe places with their families and cattle heads.  Moreover, before the repairing of the damaged embankments of the rivers Monu and Dholai, the surrounding areas of the rivers are facing the threat of being flooded again.

Khaled Bin Walid, Executive Engineer of WDB, Moulvi Bazar informed,  The water of the river Juri was flowing over the danger level and the Monu and Dholai are flowing below the danger levels. We are watching the situation round the clock. There is nothing to be worried, the water will fall when the rain is stopped.
