At least four people were killed and another was injured when a train hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at a level crossing in Laksam upazila of Cumilla district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Maksudur Rahman, 65, son of Siddikur Rahman of North Howla village of Manoharganj area, Mohammad Habib, 22, son of Abu Taher of the same village, Moiful Begum, 35, daughter of Abdul Hai of Bharnikhand village of Khila union and the auto-rickshaw driver Shahidul Islam, 40, son of Tofazzal Hossain, a resident of North Howla village of the upazila.
The accident occurred in Tughuria area around 10:30am. Three people died on the spot and two others were injured when the train hit the auto- rickshaw, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laksam Railway Police Station, Jasim Uddin Khandkar.
The injured were taken to a local hospital, where one succumbed to his injuries, he said.
The bodies were handed over to their family members, the OC added.
