At least four people were killed and three other were injured as a locomotive hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw at Annadanagar Railway Station area at Pirgacha upazila in Rangpur at about 2:00 pm on Monday.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Dukhu Miah, Sumi Begum, Nurunnahar and Mostaiz. Pirgacha police station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter. He said that the injured were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Locals said, a light engine, heading from Parbatipur to Bonarpara, hit the three-wheeler at the level-crossing under Annadanagar Rail Station area, leaving two auto-rickshaw passengers dead on the spot and four others injured. Two other passengers died on the way to hospital.
