Police arrested four arms trader along with a 9mm pistol and a magazine from Jashore Municipality Ward No. 7 Councilor Candidate Rabiul Islam Robi's Election Office on Tuesday.
The detainees are Shuvo (26), Sabuj (25), Raihan (24) and Himel (20).
Inspector Rakibuzzaman of the Chanchra police outpost said, “On the basis of secret information, police were informed that Shuvo would exchange arms with his men. Police then launched an operation to recover the weapons and arrested the gang.” Police sources said that arms were being exchanged inside the election campaign office of Rabiul Islam Robi, a councilor candidate in the upcoming municipal elections.
Shuvo, son of a councilor candidate Sabuj of the same area, Raihan and Himel from Bejpara area were arrested with a 9mm pistol and a magazine.
Jashore Kotwali Police Station OC Tajul Islam identified the gang members as extortionists. They found evidence of weapons, yaba and pornographic contents. Four cases were filed against the detainees.
