A Habiganj court has awarded life term imprisonment to four people for killing three people at Puran Pathariya village under Baniachang upazila in Habiganj 21 years ago.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of Habiganj SM Nasim Reza delivered the verdict on Thursday in a crowded courtroom in presence of the convicts and other accused. The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, in default, two years more imprisonment.
Court inspector Md. Al Amin confirmed this information.
The convicts are Karam Ali, son of Haji Ismail of Puran Patharia village, Ali Mohammad, son of Helim Ullah, Suruj Ali son of Abdul Hashim and Turab Ali, son of Sanjab Ali.
According to case statement, a clash took place over previous enmity and establishing supremacy between local Shahid Ali and Ali Ahmmed on September 19 in 1998. During the clash, three persons named Samsul Haque and Afiluddin of Shahid Ali group and Noor Mohammad of Ali Ahmmed group were killed.
On the same day, Nur Mohammad’s brother Ali Ahammed filed a case against 130 people with Baniachong police station. On the other hand, Atikunnesha, the relative of the two other deceased, filed a murder case against 62 persons.
Sub Inspector (SI) Amrendra Biswas submitted the charge sheet of the two cases on August 11 of 1999. The court sentenced three of the accused of the two cases. The other accused were acquitted.
