A Narayanganj court has convicted two accused for life term rigorous imprisonment in a murder case filed with Rupganj police station in the district.
District and sessions judge of Narayanganj Mohammad Assams Joglul Hossain handed down the judgment in the crowded courtroom on Tuesday.
The convict persons are Rubel Hossain, 30, son of Nuru Mia; and Kamruzzaman alias Kamu, 36, son of Alauddin, resident of Gondhobpur village under Rupganj police station in Narayanganj.
According to the case statement, the criminals killed an old woman Nur Banu, 60, over a land dispute on June 30 in 2019. Son of the victim Elias Mia filed a murder case with Rupganj police station. The case was investigated by the police bureau.
The court examined nineteen witnesses in the case and pronounced the conviction, public prosecutor Moniruzzaman Bulbul confirmed.
Meanwhile, a Sirajganj court on Tuesday also sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for killing a woman.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer one year more in jail.
Sirajganj District and Sessions Judge Fazle Khoda Nazir handed down the verdict.
The convicts are Saddam Hossain, 33, a resident of Brahmonganti village under sadar upazila, and Masud alias Nurnabi, 32, hailed from Khirpota area in Natore district.
Advocate Abdur Rahman, public prosecutor of the court, confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, on November 20, 2010, the convicts killed a woman in a paddy field near a beel in Rajibpur area under Sirajganj sadar upazila over a previous enmity with her father.
A case was filed with Sirajganj Police Station in this connection.
After investigation, police submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the court.
The court delivered the verdict after taking depositions of the witnesses.
