4 brothers killed in Cox’s Bazar road accident

Four brothers were killed and five others of the family injured when a pickup van ran them over on the Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram highway in Dulahazara Malumghat area under Chakaria upazila of the district early Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Anupam Shil, 48, Nirupam Shil, 45, Dipak Shil, 40, and Champak Shil, 30, sons of Suresh Chandra Shil, residents of Shah Kata village of Dulahazara union under Chakaria upazila of the district.

Quoting locals, Chakoria Malumghat Highway Police Outpost in-charge inspector Safayet Hossain said a Cox’s Bazar-bound pick-up van ran them over when they were crossing the road at around 5.30 am, leaving nine people of the family injured.

Local people rescued them and rushed them to Malumghat Christian Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared four of them dead.

The inspector further said police are trying to identify the pick-up and its driver.
