A total of 4.65 kilometers of the multipurpose Padma Bridge is now visible after installation of 31st span on it on Wednesday

“The 150-meter long span ‘3-F’ was installed on the pillar no. 25 and 25 at the Zazira point around 3:35pm’, said Engineer Humayun Kabir of the bridge project.

Before that, the superstructure was brought to the installation point by the floating crane ‘Tian-e’ from Maowa point at 8 am.

Vessels’ movement including the ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalia river route remained suspended for eight hours during the installation,

After Wednesday’s installation, 10 more spans remain left to be installed on the Mawa side. Once operational, the Padma Bridge will connect 21 southern districts with the capital and boost the country’s GDP by 1.2 percent, according to experts.

The 6.15km long two-story bridge is being constructed with steel and concrete. The main bridge is being built by the China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Company Limited.
