4,312 Ebtedayee Madrasa to be enlisted under MPO


The government is going to bring 4,312 Independent Ebtedayee Madrasa of the country under monthly payment order (MPO), said officials. They said recently Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved a proposal in this regard placed by technical and madrasah education division (TMED) under the education ministry.
Sources said out of the 4,312 madrasas, soon the government is going to provide salary and allowances for teachers and officials of 1,519 madrasas who have been enlisted under MPO.

Earlier on May 9, TMED secretary Md Alamgir (present election commission secretary) sent a proposal to the Prime Minster’s Office (PMO) on May 9, highlighting the statistics of technical and madrasa education institutions. Prime Minister approved the proposal on June 12. Contacted, TMED additional secretary AKM Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan said we will send the proposal containing PM’s approval to the finance ministry. Once the finance ministry approves, 1,519 Independent Ebtedayee Madrasas will enlisted under MPO. By turns, rest of the madrasas would also be included.

According to the proposal sent to PMO, there is no formal policy over which educational institute would be enlisted under MPO. However, it has been stressed to finalise a decision in principle to enlist those institutions under MPO.A senior source in the education ministry informed that as per the policy, rest of the madrasas would be able to apply for enlistment getting nod from TMED.

“In 1984, the government enlisted 18,189 Independent Ebtedayee Madrasas. From 1994, the government started providing Tk 500 salary to teachers of 1,519 madrasas. In the meantime, the primary schools who were enlisted at the same time have been nationalised.

Mentionable, as per the policy, an Independent Ebtedayee Madrasa must have four teachers including the headmaster. The headmaster will get salary under grade 11 while the other teachers would get salaries under grade 16. At present, an ebtedayee madrasa headmaster is getting Tk 2,500 allocation and assistant teachers are getting Tk 2,300 allocations.
