On Tuesday late at night, the  wheat consignment was brought to the river and the trawler was placed on the bank of Surma river in Khalopar area of Mollargaon union of South Surma. Badrul Islam, owner of Messrs.’ Islam Traders in Vartakhla area of the city, claimed to be buying the wheat consignment. A worker engaged in unloading goods, who did not want to be named, said that the buyer also brought 200 sacks of rice allotted by the government along with the wheat consignment. The amount of wheat in that launch will be about two hundred and fifty bags. Each bag contains 50 kg of wheat. Its current market value is 1250 taka.

It was learned that 156 tons of wheat was allotted to Fenarbank Union Parishad of Jamalganj Upazila against the work of the housing project. Some of the wheat was sold in Sylhet.

Koruna Sindhu Talukder, chairman of Fenarbank Union Parishad (UP), was contacted to find out about the incident, but his mobile phone was found switched off.

Saleh Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Jamalganj Food Warehouse, said the wheat consignment was taken out of the warehouse on April 26 under the housing project. But government wheat consignments cannot be sold outside. However, those who have been given the consignment of wheat in exchange for work can sell it.
