A total of 38 Bangladeshi teenagers, including 10 boys and 28 girls, have returned home through Benapole Check Post from India after serving various terms of imprisonment for illegally entrance.

The Petrapole Immigration Police of India handed them over to the Benapole Immigration Police on Monday (January 25) evening through a special travel permit.

According to the victims, they have been imprisoned in India for two to four years. Later, three NGOs from Benapole Port Police Station took them to Jashore Shelter Home for handing over to their families. All of them are between 18 and 12 years old. They are residents of different districts of the country including Faridpur, Barisal, Narail, Satkhira, Dhaka and Munshiganj.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner to India Shamima Yasmin has came to Bangladesh with them. She said, ‘They go to India at different times because they get caught in the clutches of brokers and get good jobs. They were detained by Indian police while working from home in different areas. They have returned to the country after serving imprisonment two to four years.”

Ahsan Habib, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole Checkpost Immigration, said these teenagers were arrested by the Indian police while working in different parts of the country at different border routes without passport or visa. Then they went to jail through the court. Later, a private organization called Rescue, Liluya and Sukanya Foundation of India released them from jail and put them in a shelter home.

After staying there for two to four years, they came to the country through a special travel permit from the Indian government.

They were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after the immigration formalities. There the NGO Justice and Care will hand over 17 people, the Women Lawyers Association seven people and the human rights organisation Rights Jashore 14 people to their families.
