37,800 Jhenaidah farmers get incentives for mustard farming

A total of 37,800 farmers in six upazilas of Jhenaidah received incentives for mustard farming. It will help reduce their farming cost and strengthen their socio-economic state, said the farmers and the officials of the department of agricultural extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah Khamarbari.

When contacted Tabibar Rahman, 55, of village Chandpur in Harinakundu upazila in Jhenaidah said he has been cultivating mustard on his one bigha of land. The plot will ensure at least Taka 35 thousand for him excluding all expenses like pesticide, irrigation etc. DAE authorities have provided him with adequate seeds, DAP and MoP fertilizers to reduce the production cost and make the farming profitable for the farmers like him.  The sources said they have been distributed 37.8 tonnes of mustard seeds among the farmers in Jhenaidah Sadar, Kaliganj, Kotchandpur, bordering Moheshpur, Shailkupa and Harinakundu. They also distributed 378 tons of dye ammonium phosphate (DAP) and muriate of potash (MoP) among them free of cost.Deputy Director of the DAE in Jhenaidah Khamarbari Asgar Ali when contacted said the government have been distributing, seeds, fertilizers and some other inputs among the farmers for free to reduce their production cost and increase the yield at farmers level with improved variety of seeds. 

The incentives will obviously help the root level farmers to increase the yield as well as expand the area of mustard farming.

DAE deputy director said not only the farmers, but also the common people have stared consuming the mustard oil as their edible oil for its herbal contents and efficacy. 

He was hoping expand of the mustard in next seasons as it was quite a profitable oil seeds crop to the farmers, Asgar Ali said.
