33,000 families get relief in Narayanganj

The Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) has distributed relief foods among 33,082 families. The NCC has so far received 330.82 tonnes of rice and Tk 15.9 lakh in cash to give the relief, Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy told a briefing at her office on Friday.

Ivy said that they set up a different wing to fight against the coronavirus in the city with health teams collecting samples of suspected Covid-19 patients and sending those to Dhaka testing regularly. Two committees are overseeing the funerals of Covid-19 victims. They have so far performed the burial of six people, she added.

Ivy went on saying the NCC medical team has so far treated 4,437 patients, collected sample of 347 suspected coronavirus with 112 being tested positive for the virus. Six vehicles have been spraying 93,000 liter of disinfectants in all 27 wads of the city corporation, she added.

Earlier in the day, Narayanganj-4 lawmaker AKM Shamim Osman distributed reliefs from a Tk 1 crore fund in his constituency. Besides, lawmaker Shamim Osman directed chairmen of union parishad to prepare list of the poor people and provide then relief goods.
