The district administration completed all necessary preparations for holding elections to three upazilas of Bogura today.
Superintendent of Police in Bogura Sudip Kumar Chakraborty briefed the election officials and members of law enforcement agencies on the polls at Gabtali Pilot High School ground at 11:00am on Tuesday. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nusrat Jahan Banna, Additional Superintendent of Police Snigdho Akhter, Gabtali Thana Officer-in-charge Abul Kalam Azad and Upazila Election Officer Ruhul Amin, among others, were present at the briefing.
After the briefing, poll materials, including ballot boxes, were handed over to the election officials at Upazila Parishad Auditorium. The poll materials are being sent to the respective centres while ballot papers will be given this morning, said Upazila Election Officer Ruhul Amin.
Sources said 11 chairmen candidates, 10 vice-chairmen candidates and 11 women vice-chairmen candidates are contesting the polls to Gabtali, Sonatala and Sariakandi upazilas. Of them, Jubo League leader Fida Hasan has been elected unopposed as Sonatala Upazila Vice-Chairman.
Senior District Election Officer Mahmud Hasan said the polls will be held at 222 centres in the three upazilas of the district.
