3 smugglers held with lube oil

Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) men nabbed three smugglers with about 2,000 litres of lube oil, 39 drums and a trawler from Jaymoni area of Pashur Channel under Mongla Port in Bagerhat on Sunday.

BCG West Zone Intelligence Officer Lt. Commander Shahriar Parvez said Coast Guard raided Jaymoni Sailo area adjacent to Pashur River on Sunday morning based on a tip-off and seized a trawler. The trawler was later searched and 1,950 litres of lube oil and 39 drums used for oil smuggling were recovered. Solar panels, gas, gas stoves and other goods were also found on the trawler.

The detained smugglers were identified as Niyamul, 2,  Rafiqul, 25, and Harun, 35, of Kanainagar and Joybangla areas of Mongla. The detainees along with their belongings were handed over to Mongla Police Station on Sunday afternoon.

The Coast Guard official further said that the Coast Guard has been conducting regular operations in the coastal areas including Mongla Port, Sea and Sundarbans to maintain law and order, protect fishery resources, control narcotics and smuggling through zero tolerance policy.
