Police recovered the bodies of a couple and their daughter from their apartment in city’ Kadamtali area on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Masud Rana, 50, his wife Mousumi Islam, 45, and their daughter Jannatul, 21.
Two more members of the family, including a minor, were rescued in critical condition and now they are undergoing treatment at separate hospitals in the city. Critically ill Shafiqul Islam is now undergoing treatment at Mitford Hospital while his five-year-old daughter Marjana Tabassum being treated in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Sub- Inspector Abul Kalam, duty officer of Kadamtali Police Station said, police recovered the bodies from Muradpur of Kadamtali area in the afternoon.
He said that they found marks of strangulation on the bodies and the actual reason behind the killing would be unearthed after their post-mortem reports are received.
Critically ill Shafiqul told reporters at Mitford hospital that his wife Mehjabin Moon served tea to all the family members on Friday night. After taking tea he fell asleep and could not remember anything more.
Mehzabin, who killed her parents and sister in the capital’s Kadamtoli area on Friday night has also threatened to kill her husband and child if police did not act quickly. After the killing, she made a phone call to emergency hotline number 999 and made the threat, said police.
However, Shila, cousin of the accused, alleged that Mehzabin wanted to kill everybody of her family.
Wari Zone Deputy Commissioner Iftekharul Islam said Mehzabin made a phone call after the killing. She threatened to kill her husband and child if police did not act quickly.
Later, police went there and recovered the bodies.
Kadamtoli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jamal Uddin said, “We found the bodies with their hands and feet tied. They were killed last night by one of their family members. We detained the accused woman.”
Shila said, “Mehzabin also had murdered her first husband. Mehzabin and her parents and sister were sentenced to imprisonment in that case. They were released on bail after serving five years in jail.”
She further said Mehzabin came to visit her mother’s house with her husband and child two days ago. She then complained to her parents that her husband was having an affair with her younger sister Jannatul. There were altercations about this. She may have committed the murder as a sequel to it.
Neighbours also said Mehzabin had a dispute with his family over land and property. She put heavy pressure on her parents to give a big share of her parental property. Earlier, a meeting was held to solve it.
Police said Mehzabin called 999 at 8.00 am after killing his parents and sister and said, “I will kill my husband and daughter if you don’t hurry up now.”
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the three victims and Mehzabin’s husband and child were sent to the hospital in an unconscious state.
