At least three people including a pregnant woman killed and six others were injured in a gas explosion at Willson road area under Bandar upazila in the district on early Friday. The deceased were identified as Mamsum, 13, Jisan, 6 and Labony, 30 all were tenants of Hassan Mia’s 5 story building no-461/1 at Willson road of Bandar upazila. Among the deceased Mamsum and Jisan are brother and sister while Labony is their neighbor who carried on 4 month pregnancy.
The injured all 6 were rescued under debris and were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Burn unit.According to Fire Brigade and Civil Defense sources claimed that all 3 were killed on spot after exploded gas of an underground reserve tank of the building. As the building owner didn’t clean the reserve tank for long time so that the gas was detained in the tank that exploded today, sources added. When gas exploded then the building walls collapsed and the inmates of a room turned down under wall that pasted with ground floor and died on the spot. Officer-In-Charge of Bandar police station, Rafiqul Islam said that the initiative would be taken after investigation on the casualty who is liable behind this incident.
