About a hundred media activists had formed human chain in front of Shailkupa press club in Jhenaidah on Friday morning. The had demanded punishment of the man liable for harassing three media activists including the Bangladesh Post Correspondent Delwar Kabir when a team of three journalist went to visit Shailkupa number 18 government model primary school in the Upazila headquarters on Thursday afternoon following corruption allegation by the teachers.
Organized by Jhenaidah Multimedia Journalist Association, the human chain was formed in front of Shailkupa press club in Jhenaidah where Shailkupa press club and Bangladesh Press Club Jhenaidah district unit leaders had participated and spoke. The affected media activists were Bangladesh Post Correspondent Delwar Kabir, Bangladesher Khabor Correspondent Burhan Uddin and Bhorer Akash Correspondent Sujan Biplab Advocate.
The speakers said the three journalists including Delwar Kabir went to talk with the headmaster of the school when a number of guardians of the students had brought allegation of collecting money from the guardians for cleaning purposes of the school. When they were leaving the spot, some Enayet Hossain, wife of the acting headmaster Nurun Nahar, had started altercation with them asking the why they had rushed there. At one stage he got angry and tried to attack them that was barred with the intervention of a number of locals. He (Enayet) had threatened the journalists and advised not to step any more. Later Delwar Kabir, the founder of Shailkupa press club, had filed a general diary against Enayet Hossain with Shailkupa police station.
Shaillkupa police station officer in charge (OC) Masum Khan when contacted said he had received a general diary lodged by senior journalist Delwar Kabir. They are going to launch drives to tale legal steps against the man liable for the incident.
Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Snigdha Das when contacted said she had advised the upazila primary education officer to look in to the matter and submit his report at an early date for next course of action.
