3 held with illegal 2,246 mobile phone sets at HISA

Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) today detained three people along with 2,246 pieces of illegal mobile phone sets worth Taka 3.5 crore from the canopy area at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) here, reports BSS.

“The mobile phone sets are being smuggled to Bangladesh from China . . . the estimated worth of the phone sets is to be Taka 3.50 crore,” Alamgir Hossain Shimul, additional superintendent (ops and media) of APBn told BSS. He said the detainees are Md Sujon, 49, Shahriar Hossain Prince, 33, and Md Rofiqul Islam, 27. They were held at about 8 am as they arrived here by an aircraft of US Bangla airlines from Guangzhou in China.

During the primary interrogation, they confessed their involvement in smuggling these goods and they have been doing it for many years, Shimul added. A case was filed with against them with Bimanbandar police station in this connection.
