Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB) arrested three members of a fake currency making gang from Naria upazila in Shariatpur on Thursday.

The arrestees were leader of the gang Arif Bepari, 20, son of Ratan Bepari of Charmohon in Naria upazila; Mohammad Zahid, 23, son of Ali Ahmed of Char Laulani of the same upazila; and Anik, 19, son of Hanif Gazi of Char Laulani of the upazila.

Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of the RAB Battalion-3, told this at a press briefing at RAB media centre in Kawran Bazar of the capital on Thursday.

He said during the drive, RAB also seized counterfeit notes of around Tk 20.46 lakh from the possession of the arrestees.

The official said that Arif had worked at a computer shop at Bangla Bazar in Ghorishar of Naria and learned how to make fake notes from YouTube.

With the help of two other associates, he started making the fake notes and through setting up an online platform, they sold those notes.

While briefing, the official said the arrestees sold fake notes of Tk one lakh for Tk 10,000-12,000.

The arrestees had taken preparations for supplying the fake notes to the markets ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
