A Chapainawabganj court sentenced three persons to death and four others to life term imprisonment in a murder case on Wednesday. Each of them was also fined Taka one lakh and those who got life term are to suffer in jail one year more in default.
Additional district and session judge of Chapainawabganj, Shawkat Ali gave this verdict in the afternoon in presence of the convicted persons.
The convicts who got death sentence are – Mehrab Hossain alias Bachchu, son of Mensad Mondal of Paranpur Baliharpur village, Jamal Uddin, son of Bahar Ali of Maheshpur village and Hazrat Ali, son of Abdus Sattar of Choto Maheshpur village all under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district.
Four other persons who got life term imprisonment are Sahera Khatun, wife of Rakib alias Babu of Paranpur Baliharpur, Md. Mohobul, son of Alauddin and Md. Mitul, son of Md. Monglu of the same village and Aslam, son of Robu of Choto Maheshpur all under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district. As the charges brought against eight other persons were not proved the court acquitted them.
According to the prosecution story, Rakib son of Naimul Islam of Paranpur Baliharpur village under Shibganj upazila in the district went out of home on March 29, 2015 at 9 pm but did not return home.His body was found in Mohananda river at Maheshpur in Shibganj upazila on the next 7 am.
SI Abdul Karim of Shibganj thana submitted charge sheet to the court accusing 15 persons on July 13, 2016. After hearing 16 witnesses, the court handed down the punishment.
