3 customs officers suspended over tax evasion

Three customs officers of Benapole Customs House have been suspended for allegedly collaborating in tax evasion worth about Tk.30 lakh. Two C&F licenses companies have also been suspend due to their involvement in revenue evasion on Monday.

Commissioner Belal Hossain chowdhury of Benapole Customs House confirmed the suspension of three customs officers and cancellation of the license. 

The matter has been informed to the National Board of Revenue he added. The suspended customs officials are Nashedul Islam, Revenue Officer, Shahidullah Ibn Noman and Asaduzzaman Asad, Assistant Revenue Officers of Benapole customs House. The two suspended C&F agent licenses are Medina Enterprise and Mahibi Enterprise.

According to customs Additional Commissioner Dr. Neyamul Islam said Alhamdulillah Enterprise; Dhaka-based importer imported 665 packages of motor parts and other products from India through Benapole Port, Customs B / E number 14827, dated 27.02.20.

Later the news came to the customs authorities that there were major irregularities and revenue evasion in the consignment. But the concerned C&F agent secretly delivered the consignment by ‘managing’ one revenue officer and two assistant revenue officers. 

Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury and Additional Commissioner Dr.Neyamul Islam jointly ordered to seize four truckfuls of goods in the consignment. But ignoring their instructions, the trucks were released with the help of three revenue officials. As a result, the government was deprived of revenue of around Tk 30 lakh.

After further investigation, Commissioner suspended  the three officers after finding evidence against the accused. At the same time, the licenses of C&F agent Medina Enterprise and its associate Mahibi Enterprise, the main source of revenue evasion, were suspended.
