Three children drowned in two upazilas of the district Tuesday.
The incidents took place in Hatia and Subarnachar upazilas of the district on the same day (Tuesday).
The deceased were identified as Achhia Akhter, 4, daughter of Zaker Hossain of Nabipur village, Ward No. 8 of Harani union of Hatia upazila, Muntaha, 2, son of Md Sohel, resident of the same area and Mujahidul Islam, 2, son of Akbar Hossain of East Charbata union of Subarnachar upazila.
According to the police and local sources, Achhia Akhter and Muntaha fell into a pond next to their house while they were playing beside it around 11am the morning. The locals recovered their floating bodies from the pond and took them to Hatia Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatia Police Station Jisan Ahmed said.
Besides, Arif Hossain, uncle of Mujahidul Islam, said that Mujahidul fell into a pond next to his house while playing beside it around 12:30pm this afternoon.
Later, his floating body was recovered from the pond and sent to Subarnachar Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor declared him dead, Charjabbar Police officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said.
