3 cattle lifters caught in Rampal with pickup

It has been alleged that the inter-district cattle syndicate is reckless ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. Rampal police have intensified operations and arrested three thieves including a pickup van filled with cows. The arrested are Nazmul Sheikh, 30, son of Kalam Sheikh of Chandpur village of the upazila, Mohammad Ali Sheikh, 22, son of Golam Sheikh and A Quader Hawladar, son of late lawyer Hawladar of Islamabad village.

A case has been registered at Rampal police station in this regard. It is learned that some people from different areas including Upazila Sadar have been stealing cows from different districts including Bagerhat and selling them for a long time. In just seven or eight months, the syndicate members have become millionaires by smuggling and selling stolen cows.

There are allegations that in a few months, some people have become the owners of land with buildings in their houses. There are allegations that they are controlled by an influential quarter.

RAB DAD Ramzan Ali filed a case in this regard. Rampal police OC Md Nazrul Islam said that on July 22, Idris Ali, a resident of Chandpur village, lodged a case with Rampal Police Station after his cow was stolen. After that, SI Lutfar Rahman of Faylahat Farid started a quick investigation and arrested three thieves and a stolen cow along with a pickup truck from Khajura area of Rupsha upazila on Khulna-Mongla highway.

Rampal police chief Md Delwar Hossain said, “We have started intensifying the campaign. We will not release anyone if there is anyone behind the cow thieves or if there is evidence of someone involved in the investigation.” The locals demanded that the police operation should continue.
