3 businessmen fined for charging excessive prices, adulteration

Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection fined Tk 38 thousand to three businessmen at separate drives at Dakbangla Bazer of Jhenaidah Sadar and Shailkupa municipality town on Thursday afternoon.

Assistant Director of Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection Suchandan Mandal said they fined Taka three thousand to some Harun Traders when they were allegedly selling smut-mixed paddy seeds to the farmers assuring of quality seeds. Their mobile team also fined Taka five thousand to Khatun Traders at the same market when they selling date expired pesticides at their sells centre. 

He informed that later they conducted drive at Niloy Traders owned by GM Jiku Alam Babu at Thana Road at Shailkupa town and fined Taka thirty thousand when he was selling onion seeds at a higher rate. District seeds certification officer Sankar Kumar Majumder among others also accompanied the team. The drives against the irregularities in selling and preservation of seed, fertilizer, food items etc. will continue in the district, assistant director informed.
