A consumer rights enforcement drive was carried out in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district on Thursday, led by Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), Chuadanga office.
The drive took place between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM in the Jibannagar market area. During the operation, seed shops, pesticide retailers, and grocery stores were inspected.
Two seed vendors, Messrs Sheela Beej Bhandar and Messrs Green Life Seeds, were fined under Section 37 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. The former was fined Tk 25,000 and the latter Tk 5,000 for selling seed packets without proper labelling, including missing importer details, pricing, and essential seed-related information.
Additionally, Messrs Anny Enterprise was fined Tk 25,000 under Section 40 for charging excessive prices on fertilisers.
Traders were instructed to keep updated price lists, sell goods at fair and reasonable prices, and avoid selling expired or substandard products, including medicines and seeds.
The operation was supported by Salma Jahan Nipa from the Chuadanga Seed Certification Office, CAB representative Md Rafiqul Islam, and a team from Chuadanga District Police.
Such drives will continue in the public interest.
