Churihatta tragedy

3 body still unidentified

Three charred dead bodies of last year’s horrific fire at Churihatta in Chawkbazar of the capital are yet to be identified, said the head of the forensic department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Sohel Mahmud. He said, DNA samples were then identified from the remaining 22 bodies. However, the remaining three bodies have not yet been identified.

On Wednesday noon in front of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital forensic department Sohel Mahmud disclosed the information. He said, on February 21 last year, it was possible to identify the five bodies. However, the identity of the remaining three bodies has not yet been determined.

Dr Sohel Mahmud also said that it took a little bit of time to submit the autopsy report and DNA reports, in the meantime the post-mortem doctor was changed. Last year, on February 20, a deadly fire ravaged several multi-storied buildings housing shops and chemical and plastic warehouses on Nanda Kumar Lane at Chawkbazar’s Churihatta intersection. Apart from killing 71 people, the fire left scores of others severely injured.
