Besides, on July 1, the upazila administration arrested two more people with fake bidis and fined them through a mobile court.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nayan Kumar Raj Banshi told Bangladesh Post that recently a fraudulent group was making fake bidis (tobacco products) and selling them in markets in different parts of the country.

Rafiqul Islam and Qayyum, both from Paikgachha area, were arrested  with the help of locals after receiving information that two people were selling the fake bidis at low prices in Mongla municipal town on July 1 at noon.

During this time 35 thousand fake bidis were recovered from them. Later, a mobile court was set up and one of

them was fined Tk 8,000 and Tk 7,000 respectively. The recovered fake bidis have been destroyed by fire.

Assistant Commissioner Bhumi further said that a fraudulent clique is making fake bidis by not giving revenue of the government and marketing them through the people.

Due to this, the youth of the country are getting addicted to tobacco products at low prices. So, the detainees have been fined in the first instance by the mobile court. However, the operation against the fraudsters will continue, the official said.
